My work explores the tension between the elegant clay form, and the unpredictable nature of the raku firing process and the twisted brutality of the metal relic lids. I draw inspiration from military history, preserving battlefield relics in my sculpture and encapsulating the stories they tell. The contrast of the smooth hand-thrown form and the vibrant, textured surface of raku, evokes the sense of both power and fragility, born from the searing heat of the kiln.
