Balancing design, craft and material, Anna Thomson’s ceramic vessels and lighting explore the possibilities of industrial techniques within a craft context. Time, so critical in industry, is abandoned for the intentional, innovative and highly skilled exploration of process. Geometry, variation, perception of from and optical play, these themes are expressed through sharp clean lines in both form and decoration, alongside softer surfaces, forms and reveal of erosion. Observations of architecture and the coast foster a curiosity about the new and the worn, of transformation and celebration of both.

Curved forms find new balance, simple cylinders reveal complex hidden inlaid patterns and multi-profiled vessels with sharp architectural geometries are all brought together in a cohesive tonal palette.

Clay is a continuous learning experience, a material dialogue that Anna has enjoyed for nearly thirty years. Her work was selected for Future Icons for London Craft Week and the internationally renowned Ceramic Art London in 2024. Workshops, residencies and retreats can be arranged at her studio.
