My work focuses on simplicity of form and the relationship between beautiful objects and their intended purpose. These principles of form and function have informed my creative practice throughout my life as a maker and continue to define and inspire its continued evolution.

Working predominantly in stoneware and on the potter’s wheel, I create simple, understated pieces to enhance life in the kitchen and grace a table. Different ball clays and locally sourced materials are blended with my own porcelain slips and Shino liner glazes, adding to the nuance, subtlety, warmth and variation that can only be achieved when firing with wood and salt. The addition of these native Devonian materials forever ties each piece to the stunning South Hams landscape in which they were made.
The pieces are wood fired in a downdraft kiln with a total of around 3kg of salt added at various stages of each firing. The efficiency of a Boury box enables the kiln to reach cone 10 in 12 hours before it is sealed and left for 4 days to cool.

My intention is to create pieces that share an ordered familiarity, while expressing their individuality through the influence flame and vapour impart during the firing.
