David Pointer Ceramics
2025 – Taking part in Potfest South East – Glynde Place
David is a sculptural ceramicist based in Poole, Dorset, whose work draws inspiration from the region’s rugged landscapes, where rolling hills meet the dramatic coastline. His creations embody the raw essence of nature, capturing the dynamic interplay of natural forces through flowing, curvilinear forms. Influenced by the Fibonacci sequence found in coastal shells, David’s designs evoke a sense of organic rhythm and timeless beauty.
Each piece is meticulously hand-built in his studio, reflecting a harmonious blend of texture and form. He contrasts the rough, tactile quality of naked stoneware clay with the smooth, earthy finish of handcrafted wood-ash glazes. This interplay of surfaces mirrors the effects of erosion shaped by wind and waves along the Dorset coast. His process includes high-temperature stoneware firing and traditional barrel-firing techniques, lending each work a unique, weathered character.
Through his practice, David invites viewers to engage with the natural world, offering a tactile experience that echoes the elemental forces of land and sea.
