2026 – Taking part in Potfest South West- Shaftesbury
My involvement and passion for clay started over 45 years ago initially as a teenager at school and then studying ceramics at art school in the early 1980’s
Making vessels has been important to me for a long time, initially exploring this in functional forms, making a range of contemporary sculptural tableware which I sold around the UK and internationally through the 1980’s and 1990’s. Subsequently I then moved into ceramics education and shared my passion for clay as a ceramics lecturer for over 35 years.
Now having left teaching I have returned to full time making as a ceramic artist and potter in my studio in Somerset. The work I make still follows my interest in the vessel, exploring structure and volume, combined with mark making and texture, with inspiration from ancient hand tools, and architectural structures to mathematical symbols and patterns. The pieces are made using stoneware clays and glazes.
I still retain my passion for functional ceramics so I also make a range of thrown tableware, using similar mark methods in both approaches to my work.
