Elisabeth has worked with clay for forty years. She enjoys the fluid feel of the clay when throwing on the wheel. “It is like a dance between myself and the clay, if we dance well at the end there is a pot.” Elisabeth makes functional work; it is important that her pieces are useful as well as being items of beauty. Jugs pour well and have elegant pulled handles, mugs feel good in the hand, bowls and plates make great areas for decorations.

The red earthenware clay is fired to 1100°C in an electric kiln. The pots are decorated with overlapping layers of coloured glazes, designs are applied in hot wax or scratched into the unfired glaze. During firing the drawings move with the shape of the piece.

Elisabeth has developed simple drawings of animals and birds where a few brush strokes depict shape and form; this works well with her glazing methods.
