Emily Goan
I grew up in rural argyll to the parents of two wonderful, creative people so of course I always wanted to go into science! After a few years of trying this however, my passion well and truly lies in art.
I am loving developing my own style and the freedom that clay gives you. I create bright and bold pieces, handbuilt using earthenware clay to allow me to really get the colours and edges to pop. When creating pottery, I take inspiration from my two other favourite things: nature and music.
I also play Scottish fiddle and music is a huge part of our life here, so it seemed only right to incorporate that into my pottery too. I make fiddler’s earrings, a mis-matched pair, shorter on the left hand side so they don’t hit the fiddle.
Recently I have been joined full time by my partner James, he also grew up on the west coast of Scotland and has a background studying glaciers in the arctic, therefore much of our pottery is themed around nature. Where we are on the west coast of Scotland we are fortunate to be surrounded by wonderful colours all year round (thanks to all the rain!) and we enjoy trying to bring this into the pottery. See if you can spot the glacier inspired pottery too!
With our work you can expect a mixture of functional but designed pottery, such as salt pots and ramekins. Completely decorative, such as wall hangings and decorations and wearable, such as handmade ceramic earrings.
