Janice Affleck – Glisk Ceramics

2025 – Taking part in Potfest in the City – Glasgow

My work centres on manipulating Parian and Porcelain, materials that allow me to explore light, shadow, and form. Each piece is crafted by hand using techniques such as slip-casting, 3D modelling, printing, and mould-making to create unique or small editions. Through these processes, I investigate the potential of these materials to convey intangible and experiential ideas such as emotion, liminal space and sense of place.

The drive to reconnect to place is something I am conscious of after returning to Scotland after 14 years as both an insider and outsider. I continue to develop the process of making with clay paired with a to and fro between landscape and language, initiated during my MA Ceramics.

My recent portfolio features a diverse collection of indoor and outdoor pieces, exhibited in collaboration with organisations such as the Royal Scottish Academy, Scottish Society of Artists, Visual Arts Scotland, Dalkeith Palace and the Scottish Sculpture Park in Argyll.
