John Scott – Sourdust Pottery
2026 – Taking part in Potfest Scotland – Scone Palace and Potfest in the Pens – Melton Mowbray
I established Sourdust Pottery in 1991 at the age of 19, after training with Nexus Design.
I quickly established a reputation for innovative ceramics, supplying a wide range of quality gift retailers and galleries throughout the UK.
By the dawn of the new millennium, I moved to my current pottery and gallery in Stocksfield, near Newcastle. It is here that I refocused away from production for the retail sector, towards the creation of a greater variety of unique, high quality ceramics for galleries, which today constitute my principal area of work.
As well as exhibiting at numerous Trade Shows, since 1997 I have been a regular exhibitor at Potfest events around the country, securing acceptance into the prestigious Potfest in the Park exhibition. The quality, ingenuity and passion that I put into my work was acknowledged last year (2020), by being awarded Potfest Potter of the year, as judged by other professionals in the field.
During recent years I have been sharing my skills and love of ceramics with others, ranging from primary school children, through college students, to adult learners via night classes, courses and demonstrations, both organised by education authorities in the North-East, and at my own Sourdust Pottery in Stocksfield.
My current principal areas of work include Naked Raku, Copper Matt Raku and Sculptural Ceramics.
