Taking part in Potfest Scotland – Scone Palace

For me, working with clay is all about connection and tactile engagement. I am interested in pots that are a quiet, but enriching part of peoples everyday lives. They can hold memories of a really good meal, a certain moment, a place or person.

I like the spontaneity of throwing and the endless room for experimentation that working with clay brings. It is the movement of both the wheel and the natural world around me that captivates me. It motivates me to record some of that movement in my pots.

I have an ever growing curiosity about using local clay, minerals and wood ash in my work which requires a lot of testing. I like this involved way of working. The unpredictability of these materials excites me, makes each pot unique and gives them a sense of place. As a maker I feel a responsibility to use my materials with care and respect. By stripping away the unnecessary and keeping forms simple I let the unique qualities of those native materials speak for themselves and honestly reflect the landscape from which they came from.
