2025 – Taking part in Potfest in the Pens – Penrith Spring and Potfest in the Pens – Melton Mowbray

Kevin Strawbridge’s journey into ceramics began 5 years ago when he became captivated after joining an open studio. Coming from an engineering background, he was instantly hooked on the wheel, exploring form and function. Full of enthusiasm, and inspiration from interacting with other potters, he very quickly decided to set up his own studio in Denton, Northamptonshire, where he began experimenting with developing glazes and new forms.

“the exciting thing about pottery is that you never stand still, and are forever evolving both your techniques and the forms you produce. There are endless avenues that can be pursued, utilising glaze and slips, as well as different clay bodies”. Kevins long career in engineering and computer programming meant that he is drawn to the form and function aspects of the craft, but found joy in the creativity ceramics offers.

Kevins ceramics are thrown on the wheel, and present an obvious nod to traditional craft and country potters, however, his glazes present a modern twist making them feel current yet timeless.

Kevins skills on the wheel and knowledge in ceramics has enabled him to tutor beginners, which is something he has enjoyed over the past 4 years. He is now an active member of Anglian potters, volunteering, and attending their summer camp with potters from all over the country. Being interested in different firing techniques, he regularly attends their wood and salt firing sessions. Mixing with other artists and makers, connecting over ideas and methods is something that Kevin thrives off of and enjoys greatly. He finds being exposed to new forms of all kinds keeps him continually evolving and developing his techniques and ideas.
