2026 – Taking part in Potfest Scotland – Scone Palace and Potfest by the Lake – Compton Verney
Lisa Biris is a, mostly self-taught, artist who creates sculptural art objects made out of porcelain and stoneware. These art works are inspired by the beauty and diversity of nature, and influenced by the emotions nature invokes, weaving natural textures and feelings together. All objects are based upon three principles: texture, contrast and movement.
Her process of creation is organic and seldom planned. This ensures her pieces feel organic and natural, like each object could have grown into its final state instead of being manmade. The creation process of each object is very time-consuming. Most important is the attention to detail, closely followed by the flow and feel of a piece.
Lisa starts her objects by making a smooth basic shape out of coils or slabs. On this base all kinds of texture is added. These textures are made by rolling each little element between her fingers and then mold and manipulate it into the desired shape. She mostly only uses her fingers but sometimes tools come into play to make holes, divots or beveling . Every element is individually made and added on. After the first firing the process continues with the adding of clear glaze and/ or oxides, followed by a second firing. And finally the addition of lusters ( gold, platinum, mother-of-pearl), completed by a third and final firing. Each of these steps meticulous, intentional and focused.
