Mary Stephens Ceramics
2026 – Taking part in Potfest in the Pens – Penrith Spring, Potfest South West- Shaftesbury and Potfest in the City- Glasgow
Mary Stephens is a potter and yoga teacher, working from a small studio in North Herefordshire. Her wheel thrown pots are part glazed to allow subtle design and tactile qualities of porcelain to be explored. Each piece is unique, with inclusions of crushed hematite, which sparkle in light, and black porcelain which captures the lift and movement of the porcelain as its thrown. Finding beauty in the unpredictable and embracing process and material qualities of porcelain. Mary’s initial training in ceramics was at Bretton Hall in early 1990’s, then as a production thrower at Pembridge Terracotta. Having returned to making about ten years ago Mary graduated earlier this year from her MA in Contemporary Crafts, from Hereford College of Arts.
