As Matthew grew older, life took on a more serious tone, and the playful joy of childhood felt distant. These sculptural pieces revisit that lost wonder, using simplified forms that invite viewers to pause, reflect, and smile. Inspired by children’s illustrators, street art, and animals, Matthew has crafted a charming menagerie of over 20 stoneware works. Each piece is designed to sit on a fireplace mantle, a nod to the Staffordshire Flatback tradition and a tribute to the wide, flat landscapes of his beloved Fenland home. Through these works, he rekindles a sense of imagination, warmth, and simple delight.
