2026 – Taking part in Potfest in the Pens – Penrith Autumn

My practice is based on the interplay between the physical human body and the forces and energy of the Tao that impact it. Soft clay builds biomorphic forms using various coiling and slabbing techniques. I use a wide range of clay bodies, and a limited range of Eastern inspired glazes and decorative mediums. Forms are pierced by metal, wire or ceramic shards to amend the natural energy of the piece – to bring balance.

The object is not to make classic forms that fall within oriental ceramic traditions. Its objective is to blend Eastern philosophy with an Occidental and personal experience. In Taoism the flow of energy creates life, and the concepts of Te (the essence of being/virtue) and Wu Wei (effortless action through non-action) are central to this energy.
