I’m a ceramic artist specialising in sgraffito, inspired by the rich flora, fauna, and breathtaking landscapes of Cornwall. My work is deeply rooted in the natural beauty and folklore of this region, which infuses every piece I create.
Creating my pieces begins with immersing myself in Cornwall’s history, rugged coastlines, rolling hills, and coastal villages—sketching plants, observing animals, and soaking in the landscapes. These sketches form the foundation for my designs, resulting in textured, detailed artworks of Cornwall’s beauty and tidal tales.
My primary medium, sgraffito ceramics, allows me to carve detailed designs into clay, revealing contrasting layers beneath. This technique involves a meticulous process that capture the delicate interplay between light and shadow. It’s a process that requires patience and precision, but it’s incredibly rewarding to see the final image emerge.
I aim for my art to resonate with viewers, offering a sense of connection to Cornwall’s essence and a moment of reflection. As I continue my artistic journey, each piece I create is a tribute to Cornwall’s serene and sometimes untamed beauty.
