SaGa Pottery is a Ukrainian ceramic studio founded in 2016 by the ceramist couple Oleksandr Barabanov and Galina Kaniuka. What began as a shared passion for working with clay has grown into a professional studio and an internationally recognized brand, with works presented in Ukraine, Europe, and the United States.

Our practice is rooted in material exploration and a deep respect for natural processes. We work primarily with stoneware, wild clay, and porcelain, embracing the balance between control and chance. Surface, texture, and form are central to our approach, as we treat clay as a living body — responsive, expressive, and shaped by time.

This philosophy is fully expressed in our current objects collection, Glacial Bodies.

Glacial Bodies is a series of ceramic objects inspired by icebergs, geological formations, and the slow passage of time. The forms resemble bodies shaped not instantly, but through accumulation, pressure, and transformation — natural masses evolving over centuries.

The surfaces are built through contrast: smooth, semi-translucent glazes coexist with rough, exposed clay. Cracks, flows, ruptures, and inclusions are treated not as flaws but as meaningful traces — evidence of movement, cooling, tension, and time. A restrained colour palette refers to ice, stone, minerals, and earth, maintaining a sense of natural depth and material honesty.

The collection explores ceramics as a fixed moment between stability and change — a meditation on slow processes, where clay records both intention and unpredictability.

Materials: dark clay with the addition of wild clay and porcelain, pigments, oxides.
