Sarah Rooms Heaphy Ceramics

2026 – Taking part in Potfest by the Lake – Compton Verney

Sarah has always loved the inter-tidal coastline, an area of part land / part sea, ever changing tides that ebb & flow. Nature’s weather patterns revealing “treasure” on every walk. Whilst spending time in multiple locations around the UK, she has gathered a chaotic muddle of images, found forms, and distressed surfaces. Both ceramic & artwork draws on these memories, reimagining, layering, distressing to form new structures evoking coastal remnants lost at sea, weathered, fused & recreated.

Increasingly influenced by historical land defences, seasalt corrosion, wild weather dereliction, extremities, from the wilds of Scotland to her nearest coastal trips of soft sands and chalky clayscapes on the Eastern coast, Sarah’s sculpture draws on the constant battle between nature and our manmade environment. There is reference to balance through interlocking structure, with texture fused by fragility, linking to inferred strength and power found through longevity and survival.
