Sonja Top and Ricus Sebes are two independent Dutch ceramic artists presenting together for the first time at this year’s Potfest.
Sonja Top makes porcelain vessels that are quickly and loosely formed, embracing intentional irregularity. Her pieces balance strength with an organically flowing elegance, enhanced by thick layers of porcelain engobe that invite to touch. A subconscious awareness and a deep connectedness to her environment emerge through her work, revealing themselves in subtle, tactile ways.
Ricus Sebes works centres on rough, broken textures combined with refined crystalline glazes. He continuously experiments with the composition of his self made clay bodies, glazes, and firing temperatures, searching for outcomes in which strong contrasts merge into a cohesive whole. His pieces reveal a fascination with tension, transformation, and the unexpected harmonies that arise when opposites meet.
