Zoe Sutton – ZRS Ceramics

2026 – Taking part in Potfest in the Pens – Penrith Spring and Potfest in the City- Glasgow

My interest in ceramics began after moving from Kent to Cumbria and discovering an abundance of red clay when digging in my new garden. Curious to see if I could create anything out of the clay I began my research, eventually taking the plunge and pit firing my first ceramic pieces. My desire to experiment with glazes led me to set up my studio with an electric kiln.

My pieces are slab built from chunky stoneware clay. I find myself drawn to the imperfect and the experimental. I am constantly playing with different clay additions and the layering of just a handful of simple glazes to achieve varied, interesting and constantly unpredictable surfaces. My pots are all individuals, and despite being created with the same basic materials, my process and their time in the kiln injects each piece with unique personality.

I aim to minimise my impact on the environment both personally and within my ceramic work. I avoid using toxic raw materials in my glazes and now single-fire all my pots.
