Making pots is a central part of my being, who I am, and how I perceive the world. Taking clay from the ground and throwing it to create functional everyday objects is something that intimately links me to the past, the present and the natural world.
The English earthenware tradition – in particular slip and the immediacy and vitality of the whole process – enables me to capture a fluid moment in time; each pot marking the rhythm of daily life.
The pleasure of cooking and sharing food heavily influences my work and I aim to make pots that are beautiful in their own right but at their best when being used!
As a full-time Production Thrower and Director of Whichford Pottery, I believe in working together communally, disseminating knowledge and continually challenging, inspiring and sharing ideas to ensure my work as an individual potter is both rooted in, and continuing, the English earthernware tradition.
