Using stoneware clay, thrown on the wheel, I create my functional tableware and vases.
My love for clay began whilst studying 3D Design at Grays School of Art. I found the medium’s versatility perfect for representing my passion for exploring the landscape. To this day, I still draw inspiration from local walks around my country home in Aberdeenshire. By experimenting with shape, texture and glaze, I enjoy creating tactile pieces of art designed for everyday use.
From a young age I battled with dyslexia and found peace when drawing. Now I often use hand drawn illustrations within my work. Furthermore, after learning to love words and the rhythm found in poetry, I enjoy including my favourite quotes and some of my own writings within some pieces.
My education in clay includes a week’s placement at Highland Stoneware, Lochinver and a graduate scheme under Jenny M Ross of Northshore Pottery. After graduating with a BAHons in 2014 I formed my business under my maiden name; Shennan.
