Andrew Harding – Northumbrian Craft Pottery

Andrew Harding has been a professional potter for over 40 years. He met his former business partner, Michael Palmer in 1977 at Cleveland College of Art where, together they studied various techniques and mediums before becoming engrossed in ceramics, finding great excitement in the versatility of clay and being particularly drawn to the immediacy of throwing.
Upon completing their qualifications the pair went on to serve apprenticeships in local potteries which specialised in production sprig ware. Together in 1987 they formed Northumbrian Craft Pottery along with Matt Jobling who left after a couple of years. They continued producing sprig ware for tourist outlets as well as expanding our work to include domestic ranges and gift ware. During the last 20 years they began to produced more individual pieces for galleries and exhibitions in porcelain and other clays. Up to this point all of their ware was reduction fired in a gas kiln so when the opportunity arose to experiment with other firing techniques we jumped at it, producing new work by wood firing, salt glazing, raku etc. Sadly Michael passed away several years ago but Andrew continues to trade as Northumbrian Craft Pottery.
