Catherine and Matt – Pottery West

Pottery West is the ceramics studio of husband and wife makers, Catherine and Matt West.
Much of our work has been focussed on functional tableware, but we are increasingly working on new, one-off more experimental forms. We specialise in the design and making of wheel-thrown tableware, using traditional techniques. All our pieces are thrown at the wheel and fired either in our electric kiln or gas kiln. We combine an interest in history and culture with a love of design and functionality. But we are also interested in material exploration and often feel inspired by the possibilities of the raw materials we work with. Our designs are often very minimal in form but with glazes that are tactile and intricate, not with applied pattern but sometimes expressive brushwork.
We have recently published our first book, ‘Design and Make Tableware at the Wheel’, published by the Crowood Press.
