Grace makes functional stoneware ceramics on the potter’s wheel. Her glazes are formulated to pool and break over the tactile surfaces of the pots, accentuating the movement in the loosely thrown forms and helping to express the earthy character of the materials. She seeks a balance between strength and fragility in her pots, which are made to be used and enjoyed in daily life. Grace uses a variety of different clays in her work, from dark, rough, iron-rich clays to pure white porcelain. Much of her making is stimulated by an interest in contrasting textures and finishes, combining the rustic and the refined within her body of work.
