2026 – Taking part in Potfest Scotland – Scone Palace
Potfest at Scone Palace was my first ever Potfest (2022). It has now become a regular event for me and it is a great pleasure to see people returning year after year as well as meeting new visitors.
My ceramic pieces are hand built by coil, slab and pinch techniques, and all are individual explorations in form and surface texture. They are unglazed and receive surface decoration by barrel smoke firing using a variety of locally sourced combustible materials.
Each build is completed and refined with careful precision but the decorative outcome with smoke firing is largely unpredictable. It brings a warmth and energy to the work which is intriguing and rewarding. And a little touch of beeswax brings the pieces to life, defining colour and texture.
Because my work is low fired and unglazed it is decorative rather than functional.
