2026 – Taking part in Potfest Scotland – Scone Palace and Potfest in the Park – Hutton-in-the-Forest
I am based in Scotland near St Andrews, where I make my ceramic reliefs alongside prints and paintings. Working with clay allows me to add a three-dimensional/sculptural quality to my simplified figurative images. I like designing and carving out the figure just as much as I am interested in the spaces between the objects. Cutting a pattern into the relief produces a tactile surface that is enjoyable and creates a great base for beautiful glazing effects.
To make a relief, I first carve the image into hardened clay, which I then cast in a plaster mould to produce an edition of fifty. After this, the reliefs are fired, glazed, and fired again near stoneware temperature. I use a variety of ready-made glazes, which I often mix because I am after a certain shade of colour or effect on the clay. All reliefs are signed and have an edition number.
