John Christie – Blackhills Pottery

2025 – Taking part in Potfest Scotland – Scone Palace

I am a Scottish potter who started working with clay when at art school in Liverpool in 1965 – fifty plus years ago! I became a full time professional potter in 1971 – working first for David Frith in Wales and later in my own pottery in Pantasaph, Wales, making slip decorated earthenware.

I returned to Scotland in 1983, where I have continued to teach and make wood fired stoneware. I am a selected member of the (British) Craft Potters Association.
I normally make pots for use with food and drink, glazed with wood ash glazes. These are fired in a 60 cubic foot wood-fired kiln.
