Liz Watts SWA

I am a sculptor and ceramicist who creates work in clay, bronze and papier-mache.

I have a particular passion for porcelain, for its tactile strength after firing and for its ability to take colour. I am an image chaser, and during hand building my ideas develop as my pieces grow. I often build pieces in layers, playing with reflective surfaces and sculptures within those layers.
The shapes I form become my canvases to paint on.
I enjoy the diagnostics of working in ceramic, it takes me back to my roots in veterinary medicine

I studied sculpture and ceramics in France and also was taught porcelain overglaze painting techniques by skilled crafts women in Chantilly. As a result of this my work has a touch of the crazy French Chateau about it.

Despite being ornate, pieces sometimes also have political messages, but always in a way that pulls the viewer in, rather than shouting from the walls.

I was elected a full member of The Society of Women Artists, (SWA) in 2022.
