Paula Doherty – rubber glove ceramics
2025 – Taking part in Potfest in the City – Glasgow
I am Glasgow-based potter making functional dinner and home-wares. Focusing on simple but design-lead works, the rubber glove studio aims to create long-lasting functional favourites that are perfect for sharing and elevating any dinner party, or making everyday rituals more special and bringing a little joy to the user’s routine.
My designs are predominantly inspired by the natural world, Scottish landscapes and found rocks, but with a contemporary aesthetic. Working mostly in thrown stoneware with some trad pottery elements and colours, these are contrasted with simpler yet fun more modern shapes, bold pronounced forms and sustainability-forward ideas where possible (eg. re-purposing studio waste as working materials, designing multifunctional wares).
My two most recent collections are a lunar-cycle inspired range and a speckled range which re-purposes waste glaze in the studio to create a colourful sprinkle effect.
My work can be found in my online shop (rubbergloveceramics.co.uk), by commission and at markets.
Alongside my own practice, I also run pottery workshops and work as a technician at Wild Gorse Pottery.
