Sally graduated from Bath College with a degree in ceramics in 1990 where she first encountered Raku firing. “I was needless to say, completely hooked on the immediacy, fire and adrenalin! I left with a raku kiln, tongs, gas bottle and burner”
After making and selling her work for ten years she went on to study Architecture, which has greatly informed her work. More recently Sally’s love of nature and ancient woodlands have become her design inspiration, with Raku as the main firing technique. The clocks and vases combine both beauty and function with a nod to Art deco and modernist architecture.
The pieces are carefully constructed with a sgraffito surface pattern and hand painted glazes before Raku firing. The results are very precise, contrasting matt and shiny and iridescent copper and silver glazes to create depth and perspective.
