Bev Stevens Ceramics

2026 – Taking part in Potfest in the Pens – Penrith Spring and Potfest in the Pens Melton Mowbray

Bev Stevens uses her past career in performance arts to develop some drama or action with clay. Her work still focuses on social interaction and human movement.
Bev’s wheel-thrown vessels arise from her fascination with porcelain. She celebrates the beauty of this clay by keeping the focus on its natural visual and tactile qualities. Her pieces feature carved, scarred, or polished naked exteriors. The carving process transforms the clay’s surface, serving as a metaphor for life—where experiences, memories, encounters, and relationships leave lasting impressions that shape who we are. Colour and decoration—applied using glaze, metals, oxides, or glass—are reserved for the interiors of the vessels, placed at the vessels’ core. Each of Stevens’ series explores a theme or ‘story’ inspired by the lived experience.
