MOUNTAIN EDGES VESSELS
A new range of porcelain sculptures inspired by mountain scenery.
Tall standing forms and wide-open vessels, hand built and wheel thrown from fine white porcelain then altered by joining, additions and carving to create textural decoration.
Two sections of thrown porcelain are skilfully joined together to create standing forms that are both tall and slender. A feeling of vulnerability and awe found on mountain peaks is created by shaping towering pinnacles, adding delicate porcelain accents and carving into the porcelain to resemble worn water channels.
Open forms begin as wide shallow bowls thrown on the wheel then altered in shape. Additions of porcelain shards with shattered edges and fluxing glazes suggest melting ice glaciers on the edge of collapse.
White glazes in a variety of crawling, glossy and opaque surfaces are applied to suggest ice flows and glittering summits, contrasting with unglazed sharp edges and windswept snow cornices. Obelisks are displayed mounted on solid wooden bases.
