Nichola makes functional wheel-thrown ceramics, inspired by her previous 20 years in the food industry.
Working from her studio in Sheffield, she incorporates local clay, dug from nearby rivers, in both the body and the glazes, hoping to forge a connection between the pots and the landscape.
She aims to create forms that balance utility with the energy of the making process. These are then fired in gas or wood-fuelled kilns, bringing out the iron present in the wild clay.
